MY SERVICES

James practises in civil and commercial litigation – specialising in insurance, insolvency, and regulatory work and advice.

service

Normally engaged by solicitors on behalf of their clients, he has worked with law firms of all sizes, including some of the largest in the country.

Often it is more cost-effective for the client to involve a barrister and James brings a wealth of experience – both in his areas of expertise and with his significant time in court.

James’ involvement keeps going to court as a viable option, meaning the client doesn’t have to settle for a less than ideal outcome.  However, trial may not be – and often is not – the best option, and James has substantial experience negotiating favourable settlements on behalf of clients.

Contactable and extremely responsive, he plans a strategy at the outset, which can be adapted as the case progresses.

And, importantly, there are no surprises regarding his fees for his clients.

Overall, it’s about achieving the best result for you.

Insurance

James has a particular speciality in insurance, working with insurers (and reinsurers), solicitors and other participants in the insurance industry that have insurance issues.

He has experience on both sides, having represented insurers and insureds.

Insolvency

An expert in the myriad of issues that arise on insolvency, James has acted for clients on some of the most significant liquidations and receiverships in New Zealand over the last 24 years.

James works with liquidators, receivers, creditors, company directors and individuals, providing legal advice and, if necessary, representation in court proceedings.

Commercial & Civil Disputes

James has a vast amount of experience in helping his clients with commercial and civil disputes – both in the courtroom and settling before it gets to court.

Regulatory Work & Advice

James helps clients deal with, and navigate, a variety of regulatory issues.

Examples include acting for clients being investigated by the Financial Markets Authority and the Serious Fraud Office.
